BUILDING AND MODIFYING CROSSOVERS:

A crossover is an electronic filter inside a speaker box which makes sure that the  speaker is only fed the frequency that it is designed to reproduce. If for example a tweeter is fed with a lower frequency than it is able to reproduce it will sound very distorted and also will usually burn out the voice coil eventually. A properly designed crossover ensures a much cleaner sounding speaker and also enables the speaker box to handle a lot more power without damaging the more fragile midrange and tweeter speakers.

A lot of cheaper speakers only have a simple capacitor in series with their midrange and tweeters which causes them to stop working eventually if they are overdriven. A sign of this is if the tweeter has stopped working, but the woofer is still ok.

A new crossover can fix this. Prices vary as our crossovers are customized to suit your speakers.
