UPGRADING SPEAKER BOXES:

A lot of cheaper hi-fi speaker boxes use quite good quality bass speakers, but cheaper cone tweeters, midranges and a very simple crossover. A big improvement can be made by substituting a better quality dome tweeter and modifying the crossover network.

Another reason to upgrade is an older speaker box with low power or damaged speakers in it. A lot of older speaker boxes used high quality wood veneer on the boxes and usually have a much better standard of construction , so new speaker drivers and a recovered front grille give an excellent result for a much lower cost than brand new speakers.
